Congratulations on being selected to participate in the Challengers’ Circle! You are here because of your skills, your accomplishments, and your leaders’ belief in your potential. So… that means you’re already pretty fantastic, right? Right! But if this is true, then why should you spend your time on this?
Because even the best can get better. So let’s dive in.
Think back to April 2021. (Yes, it is really hard to believe that was only four months ago.)
Most of us thought we knew certain things about what Summer 2021 would look like. We got focused on re-entry, we started conversations within our communities about finding a “new normal,” we planned vacations (heck, some of us even bought concert tickets!). Many of us were looking ahead to being in our lives again with a sense of knowing what was coming, a sense of a plan, a sense of control.
And yet, here we are: the Delta variant rages, spaces that re-opened are again contemplating restrictions, and the parents among us wait nervously to learn whether in-person school will or will not be a thing. (And of course, there are equally significant crises and unresolved issues tearing at us as a global community that I haven’t even mentioned but that are in front of us right now.)
Within all of this uncertainty, there is actually one thing we can be certain of, and that is this: the past eighteen months are calling us to life in new ways. While we are still discovering what that will mean for us, our systems, our beliefs, and our behaviors, what I do know is this:
To meet the questions the past eighteen months have raised, we need to show up. And we need to show up fully leading with our whole selves.
To do that, we need to do things like what you are about to do today: bravely launch yourself into an exploration, one that will require a willingness to step into the messy process of self-examination and personal growth. A process that will call on you to be open, curious, and even vulnerable as we mine together for the gems. A process you might find you quite enjoy.
My hope is that the Challengers’ Circle experience will be a supportive one for you; that my team and this program will serve as compassionate guides, here to answer your questions and address your fears; and that this community of fellow travelers will become a significant and inspiring part of your search for growth and learning in the weeks and months ahead.
May you never stop learning,
